Bluetooth Hearing Aids

Find out about the latest advancements in Bluetooth technology and how they benefit your hearing aids!

What Is Bluetooth and
How Does It Work?

Bluetooth is a wireless technology that lets devices share information over short distances (around 10 meters), all without the hassle of cables. It works using low-energy radio waves to create a quick and easy connection between your gadgets.

This amazing technology has transformed how we use everyday devices – everything from smartphones and TVs to smart home appliances like fridges, and even microwaves!

For hearing aid users, Bluetooth has been a game-changer. It means you can connect your hearing aids to your favourite devices, like phones, tablets, and TVs, allowing you to enjoy clear sound directly through your hearing aids whenever you need it.

What Are Bluetooth Hearing Aids?

Gone are the days of large, bulky hearing aids being the standard for hearing loss. Thanks to Bluetooth technology, modern hearing aids have evolved into sleek, discreet, and fully digital powerhouses that incorporate connectivity across all kinds of platforms.

You can now communicate across practically every type of electronic device, such as smartphones, tablets, and TVs. Whether you’re listening to music, taking calls, or watching your favourite show, Bluetooth hearing aids stream sound directly to your ears – no need for extra headphones or fiddly earbuds.

The real beauty of Bluetooth hearing aids is that they can communicate with each other and sync seamlessly across multiple platforms. Adjust the volume on one hearing aid, and the other automatically adjusts. Pair them with your phone, and you’re instantly connected to the digital world.

Bluetooth has allowed modern hearing aids to become truly multifunctional devices, with excellent customisation and a range of added features to make life just that bit better. Consider it a warm welcome to the wonderful world of wireless tech!

What Devices Can Bluetooth Hearing Aids Connect to?

Bluetooth hearing aids allow those with hearing loss to experience interconnectivity between devices like never before. Not only do they make life easier, but they also help bring back the little things many of us take for granted – like crystal clear phone calls, enjoying music, and watching TV without distractions.

Hearing aids can transform how you experience everyday television viewing! They let you enjoy sound levels that are perfectly customised for your hearing needs while the rest of the family watches at their preferred volume. Bluetooth also eliminates reverberation and reduces background noise, so you can enjoy your favourite shows without any distractions.

For some models, you can stream audio directly from your TV to your hearing aids, while others may require an additional device called a ‘streamer.’ The streamer converts Bluetooth signals into signals your hearing aids can process, ensuring high-quality sound without interruption from the TV or other household voices.

Making phone calls has never been easier with Bluetooth hearing aids. We all know how tricky it can be to manage feedback or interference during calls, but Bluetooth solves that by streaming sound directly to your hearing aids. You’ll feel as though you’re sitting right next to the person on the other end of the line!

With some Bluetooth hearing aids – particularly those designed as ‘Made for iPhone’ (MFI) or ‘Made for Android’ (MFA) – you can link your hearing aids directly to your smartphone. This allows you to make and take calls without the need for additional devices, and you can enjoy clear conversations, even in noisy environments.

Listening to music with Bluetooth hearing aids offers an entirely new level of convenience and sound quality. Stream your favourite tunes directly to your hearing aids without worrying about feedback or interference from surrounding sounds. No need for bulky headphones or earbuds – just pure, uninterrupted sound.

Whether you’re relaxing at home or on a walk, Bluetooth makes it easy to enjoy your music wherever you go. With modern hearing aids, your devices can seamlessly transform into personal wireless headphones!

Are Bluetooth Hearing Aids Worth It?

Bluetooth hearing aids can be a game-changer, offering modern conveniences and improved sound quality that can significantly enhance your everyday experiences. Whether or not Bluetooth hearing aids are right for you depends on your lifestyle and what you’re looking for in a hearing aid. Here are some key benefits to help you decide:

Personalisation

Bluetooth hearing aids offer a high level of personalisation. Using an app on your smartphone – whether it’s Apple, Android, or another platform – you can easily adjust settings to match different environments.

Control at Your Fingertips

With Bluetooth, managing your hearing aids is easier than ever. You can control them discreetly through your phone, adjusting the settings whenever needed without anyone ever noticing.

Stream Audio Directly

Bluetooth hearing aids allow you to stream audio directly from your favourite devices, turning your hearing aids into wireless headphones. Take calls, listen to music, or watch TV with ease.

Improved Sound Quality

Since the audio is streamed directly from your chosen smart device, the sound quality with Bluetooth hearing aids is often crisper than with traditional models. You’ll notice fewer interruptions and less background noise.

Rechargeable Convenience

Many Bluetooth hearing aids come with rechargeable batteries, making them incredibly convenient. Use your hearing aids throughout the day, and when you’re ready to rest, simply pop them into their charging station.

So, Are They Right for You?

Bluetooth hearing aids could be an absolute life-changer if you’re someone who enjoys staying connected to technology. From taking phone calls to watching TV and streaming music, these hearing aids make everyday activities easier and more enjoyable.

However, if you prefer a simpler, more basic hearing aid without the extra features, a non-Bluetooth option might suit you better. The best way to know for sure? Talk to us! Our audiologists are here to help you find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.

When purchasing hearing aids, you can ask your hearing care assistant or audiologist whether the model you’re considering has Bluetooth compatibility. Most modern hearing aids are Bluetooth-enabled, but it’s always a good idea to confirm before making a decision.

If you’re under any doubt as to whether or not your hearing aids are Bluetooth-enabled, then be sure to get in touch with one of our audiologists who will be able to confirm their connectivity.

Connecting your hearing aids to Bluetooth is simple, whether you’re using an iPhone, Android device, or even a TV:

For iPhone:

  1. Make sure Bluetooth is turned on by going to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Place your hearing aids in their charger for about 20 seconds.
  3. Open Settings on your iPhone, then go to Accessibility.
  4. Tap on Hearing Devices.
  5. Select your hearing aid from the list of available devices.
  6. Remove your hearing aids from the charger.
  7. Tap Connect or Pair on your iPhone, and you’re all set!

For Android:

Not all hearing aids are compatible with Android devices, so it’s best to check the user manual, manufacturer’s website, or consult with your audiologist to confirm compatibility. If your hearing aids do work with Android, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on your hearing aids.
  2. If your hearing aid manufacturer offers a specific app, download it from Google Play – it may walk you through the pairing process. If not, continue to Step 3.
  3. Go to Settings on your phone.
  4. Tap Connected devices > Pair new device.
  5. Select your hearing aid from the list of available devices. If you have two hearing aids, wait for the first one to connect, then tap the second one to pair it.

For TVs and Other Devices:

Many modern hearing aids can connect directly to your TV, computer, laptop, or other devices via Bluetooth, while others may require an accessory like a streamer. Here’s how to connect them:

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your TV or device. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure it’s turned on.
  2. If your hearing aids require a streamer, make sure the streamer is properly connected to your device.
  3. Put your hearing aids into pairing mode by turning them on and off, or by placing and removing them from the charger (for rechargeable models).
  4. On your TV, computer, or other device, go to the Bluetooth settings and look for your hearing aids on the list of available devices.
  5. Select your hearing aids to pair them with your device.
  6. Once connected, the sound will stream directly to your hearing aids, giving you clearer audio without background noise.
